Palm Springs
Still in the 80’s
I wanted to pass on some things to think about. If you are interested in health issues, please read and listen to these 2 clips from Dr. Oz. Obviously, Dr. Mercola’s bias is clearly anti-big pharma, however, with the big push towards everyone getting the flu shot, it’s best to hear the extremes on both sides.

If you are more at risk, it may be a good idea to get the vaccine- and may even be required for healthcare workers, teachers, those immunocompromised, travelers, etc. What some studies have shown, too, and some of you may already know this, is that shoring up on your vitamin D levels is great too. We get a large amount of our vitamin D from the sun, and smaller amounts from foods. Obviously, if you live in Palm Springs you are getting a lot of sun.
The good news is, you can eat foods rich in vitamin D on a regular basis, such as, beef liver, fatty fish, and eggs. Pretty tough if you are a vegan. I guess vegans can eat a bunch of mushrooms irradiated with UV light:) Or a simpler approach would be to purchase cod liver oil or vitamin D supplements from your naturopath or chiropractor or a holistic nutritionist. Don’t just buy this anywhere or rely on a high dose prescription, as purity in ingredients does matter. Research the brands you are buying.
In case you are unaware, vitamin D activates your immune system to respond to influenza (including the swine flu). Vitamin D also balances your immune response to avoid dangerous inflammation. Those with low vitamin D are typically susceptible to colds and viruses and when they do catch the bug, it tends to linger longer than those who have adequate amounts of vitamin D. Ask your doctor about this.
Doctors say that those with high risk of vitamin D deficiency should consume 1000 IU of vitamin D daily. Children and teens should consume 200-400 IU daily.
As for me and my family, we have been boosting our immune systems for years with Arbonne’s nutritional hybrids and triple shield echinacea. The hybrids have 1000 IU of vitamin D for adults and 400 IU for the kids. It’s very rare that we get sick, and if we do, it lingers maybe for a couple of days. Our 3 kids who are exposed to sick kids at school daily, rarely get sick.
For what it’s worth, I feel more comfortable for my family to allow the body to heal itself by supporting its efforts through deep nutrition, exercise, decreasing exposure toxins, and plenty of sleep.
Please check with your own healthcare providers for their recommendations and professional opinions. I would love to hear your feedback on this subject.
Balance yourself naturally.
